USHAŞ visited Mr. Ümit HOŞNAV, Governor of Erbil, in his office on February 6, 2025. Within the scope of the visit, information was given about USHAŞ’s fields of activity, its role as a regulator in the national and international health sector, the “HealthTürkiye” brand and its efforts to strengthen health cooperation between countries.
During the meeting, bilateral relations between Türkiye and the KRG were discussed and USHAŞ’s initiative to establish a Turkish hospital in Erbil was brought up. In this context, cooperation opportunities in the health sector were evaluated in detail. In addition, within the framework of the training of Iraqi health professionals, sending Turkish doctors to Erbil and organizing training programs for health professionals in Erbil were discussed.
In order to increase cooperation in the field of education, the idea of conducting joint studies between universities in Erbil and universities in Türkiye or establishing a new university from scratch was discussed. Mr. HOŞNAV stated that the KRG attaches great importance to strengthening relations with Türkiye in the field of health and emphasized that the contributions of USHAŞ in this direction are valuable.
During the meeting, it was stated that medicines and medical consumables are supplied from Türkiye and it was expressed that cooperation in this field should be further strengthened. Information was also shared on the authorization and licensing processes of health facilities, and it was emphasized that health investments should be carried out in a coordinated manner. It was stated that USHAŞ can play an important role in ensuring the supply of pharmaceuticals and medical devices in cooperation with public authorities.
It was agreed that joint steps should be taken to develop health tourism. Mr. HOŞNAV stated that they are open to cooperation within the scope of the issues discussed at the meeting and emphasized that the cooperation in the field of health will continue more strongly with the contributions of USHAŞ.
